Italy’s President Warns Global Conflicts Are Straining NATO, EU

(MENAFN) Italy’s president has warned that ongoing conflicts around the world are placing increasing pressure on major international alliances and organizations, raising concerns about their ability to respond effectively to growing instability.

Speaking during Navy Day celebrations at the Quirinale Palace on Monday, Sergio Mattarella highlighted the importance of preserving the international legal framework established in the aftermath of World War II.

"In a context of great uncertainty, it appears essential to defend the legacy of rules of cooperation and law established by the international community after World War II," he said.

Mattarella noted that Italy’s navy plays a vital role at a time when shifting geopolitical dynamics are reshaping the global order.

According to reports, he said the international environment is being marked by significant changes in power balances and increasing tensions across multiple regions.

“The tensions and conflicts on the global stage are testing the resilience of NATO, the EU's capacity to act, and the credibility of international organizations, starting with the UN.”
