Netanyahu Flies Over ICC Member States Despite Arrest Warrant
The website FlightRadar showed Netanyahu’s plane, known as “Wing of Zion,” flying over Greece, Italy, and France on its route to the US.
The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu on Nov. 21, 2024, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza, where more than 72,000 people have died since a major assault began in October 2023.
Although Greece, Italy, and France are all members of the ICC and bound to comply with its decisions, their airspace was not closed to Netanyahu’s aircraft.
The flight followed the same route he took in late December for a previous trip to meet US President Donald Trump. In earlier trips, Netanyahu had avoided the airspace of certain countries due to potential arrest risks. During a September visit to New York for the UN General Assembly, he entered Greek and Italian airspace but bypassed France.
Netanyahu departed Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Tuesday for Washington, where he is scheduled to meet Trump to discuss Iran. He is expected to return to Israel on Friday morning, according to reports.
Meanwhile, indirect talks between the US and Iran took place Friday in Muscat, Oman, amid rising tensions and a US military buildup in the region.
